DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – After opening itself to New Year’s revelers, Dubai is now being blamed by several countries for spreading the coronavirus abroad, even as questions swirl about the city-state’s ability to handle reported record spikes in cases.

The government’s Dubai Media Office says the sheikhdom is doing all it can to handle the pandemic, though it has repeatedly declined to answer questions from The Associated Press about its hospital capacity.

“After a year of managing the pandemic, we can confidently say the current situation is under control and we have our plans to surge any capacity in

Ask a few people in the travel business how their industry is doing, and you’ll start to hear some common refrains: Travel took a beating in 2020. The market is bursting with pent-up demand. Great deals are everywhere, but the terrain keeps shifting, so consider the help of travel agents. Beaches and parks are in — so, apparently, is littering. Between vaccine distribution hiccups and the new coronavirus variants, nobody knows when the floodgates will truly open.

That last point draws a little more debate. Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association (a nonprofit trade group) says

Travel Used to Be My Identity. How Do I Move Forward?

“It’s important to name this reality upfront, that there is a loss here,” says Liz Graham, a therapist at Tribeca Therapy in New York. “There’s a loss of sense of self, there’s the loss of a coping skill.” Travel, she notes, is often something we use to deal with the feelings many of us are experiencing right now. “[Travel] makes life pleasurable when things feel hard or painful or sad or monotonous, yet this is a moment where your primary defense mechanism has been ripped away from you, unannounced, all at once.”

Being realistic that this feeling might not

Arhaq

Bangkok (CNN) — Once upon a time, the locals peddled rice on Bangkok’s Khao San Road. Lots of it.

Barge after barge paddled, and later motored, down the vast Chao Phraya River and into the mouth of Banglamphu Canal, where they dropped off thousands of tons in jute sacks to wholesalers in the neighborhood.

By the end of the 19th century, Banglamphu district was by far the largest rice market not only in Bangkok, but anywhere in Siam, the world’s largest rice growing nation.

Smaller vendors opened shops south of the canal, where a dirt-track alley became so thick

“Travelers will then have to wait for up to three days at an

Hawaii’s covid-19 travel restrictions confuse tourists, locals alike

John Derrick has run an online guide to Hawaii travel for nearly 20 years, so he’s used to answering questions about the destination. But these days, the questions he gets at GuideofUS Hawaii are a little more complicated.

At what age do kids need to be tested? Does my covid-19 vaccination count for anything? Will my large family violate rules about safe gatherings? If I’ve already had coronavirus, am I good to go?

“It really does feel like you need a PhD in Hawaii Safe Travels to parse all the information,” Derrick said.

Hawaii essentially shut down its borders to
